IB 00-85: NMFS Closes Directed Fishing for Atka Mackerel by Non-CDQ Trawl Gear in Aleutian Islands Subarea to Prevent Overfishing of Sharpchin and Northern Rockfish

Notice of a fishery management action.

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is closing directed fishing for non-Community Development Quota (CDQ) Atka mackerel by vessels using trawl gear in the Aleutian Islands subarea of the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands management area at 12 noon, Alaska local time (A.l.t.), September 20, 2000, according to James W. Balsiger, Administrator, Alaska Region, NMFS. This action is necessary to prevent overfishing of sharpchin/northern rockfish.

This action is issued pursuant to 50 CFR 679.20(d)(3). Maximum retainable bycatch amounts for Atka mackerel may be found in the regulations at 50 CFR 679.20(e) and (f).
