IB 08-39: NMFS Adjusts the 2008 Sablefish Total Allowable Catch Amounts in the West Yakutat and Southeast Outside Districts of the Gulf of Alaska

March 14, 2008 - 2:30 p.m.

Notice of a fishery management action.

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is increasing the 2008 sablefish total allowable catch amount (TAC) in the West Yakutat District by 170 metric tons (mt) and decreasing the sablefish TAC in the Southeast Outside District by 170 mt, effective 12 noon, Alaska local time, March 8, 2008, according to Robert D. Mecum, Acting Regional Administrator, Alaska Region, NMFS.

The adjusted TAC amounts are 2,120 mt for the 2008 West Yakutat District and 3,220 mt for the Southeast Outside District. This action is necessary because NMFS has determined that the current 2008 sablefish TACs in the West Yakutat and Southeast Outside Districts were incorrectly specified. The adjusted sablefish TACs for the West Yakutat and Southeast Outside Districts are consistent with the appropriate TACs derived from the 2007 stock assessment and fishery evaluation report.
