IB 08-41: NMFS Opens Directed Fishing for Atka Mackerel by Vessels Participating in the Bering Sea and Aleutian Island Trawl Limited Access Fishery in the Eastern Aleutian District and Bering Sea Subarea

Notice of a fishery management action.

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is prohibiting directed fishing for Pacific ocean perch for vessels participating in the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands (BSAI) trawl limited access fishery in the Eastern Aleutian District of the BSAI, effective 12 noon, Alaska local time, March 19, 2008, according Robert D. Mecum, Acting Administrator, Alaska Region, NMFS.

This action is necessary to prevent exceeding the 2008 Pacific ocean perch total allowable catch specified for vessels participating in the BSAI trawl limited access fishery in the Eastern Aleutian District of the BSAI and is issued pursuant to 50 CFR 679.20(d)(1)(iii).

After the effective date of this closure the maximum retainable amounts at 50 CFR 679.20(e) and (f) apply at any time during a trip.
