Annabel Westell, MSc
Annabel has a BSc in Marine Biology from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and a MSc in Marine Mammal Science from the University of St Andrews, Scotland. For her postgraduate dissertation, Annabel used acoustic localization to explore the movement of sperm whales thought to be depredating long lines in the Norwegian Sea. Previously she worked as an acoustic analyst at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography (BIO) in Nova Scotia, classifying beaked whale and sperm whale click detections. Annabel joined the passive acoustic research group in December 2020 and is currently working on towed array research, specifically the detection, classification, and localization of sperm whales in the western North Atlantic.
