Arthur Wong, PhD
Artie Wong is the Prescott Grant Program Manager for NOAA Fisheries’ Marine Mammal Health and Stranding Response Program (MMHSRP). He has worked with the MMHSRP since 2022. Prior to his current position, he worked in a diversity of roles for non-profit groups (such as Marine Animal Rescue Specialists in California and Save the Manatee Club in Florida), academia (University of Maine’s Darling Marine Center), animal care and training (Wildlife Conservation Society’s New York Aquarium and Central Park Zoo, and Zeehondencreche Seal Rehabilitation Centre in the Netherlands), as well as state and federal agencies (Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, U.S. Geological Survey, U.S. National Park Service, and NOAA Fisheries). Artie received his Ph.D. from the University of Queensland, Australia, where he conducted health and immunology research on dugongs. He earned a M.S. from the University of Florida - College of Veterinary Medicine, where he developed a vital signs monitoring protocol for field-captured manatees in Florida, Puerto Rico, and Belize. He also has a B.S. from Long Island University. Artie works closely with NOAA Fisheries’ Regional Stranding Coordinators and supports the Marine Mammal Stranding and Entanglement Response Networks in their field response efforts. This, in turn, ensures that NOAA’s conservation goals are met.
