National Marine Mammal Stranding and Emergency Response Coordinator

Sarah Wilkin is the Supervisor of the Marine Mammal Health and Stranding Response Program (MMHSRP), in NOAA Fisheries' Office of Protected Resources, based in Silver Spring, Maryland.  She is also the National Marine Mammal Stranding and Emergency Response Coordinator, overseeing marine mammal health, stranding, and entanglement response efforts throughout the United States, working closely with NOAA Fisheries staff and partners in the marine mammal stranding and entanglement response networks. She has worked for NOAA Fisheries for over 20 years in a variety of roles within the MMHSRP, including serving as Prescott Program Manager and Regional Stranding Coordinator in California. She has specialized experience in marine mammal response during oil spills, filling leadership roles in the incident commands for multiple spills including Deepwater Horizon in 2010. She earned her B.S. in Marine Science from Eckerd College, a M.S. in marine biology from Moss Landing Marine Laboratories/San Francisco State University, and a Master’s of Public Health from Imperial College London.
