NOAA Fisheries Financial System Demonstration and Feedback Session
Meeting participants will preview the initial release of the updated online service platform for fisheries financial account holders.
About
NOAA Fisheries administers a number of programs to improve access to capital, reduce fishing overcapacity, mitigate the effects of conflicting uses and fisheries resource disasters, and provide fisheries research and development grants. Major programs include:
- The Fisheries Finance Program provides long-term financing or refinancing of the cost of construction or reconstruction of fishing vessels, shore side facilities and aquaculture facilities.
- Fishery Capacity Reduction Programs (also known as Buybacks) provide a mechanism to prevent or end overfishing.
- The Fishing Vessel Capital Construction Fund Program allows commercial fishermen to defer paying taxes on fishing vessel income.
- The Fishermen’s Contingency Fund Program compensates commercial fishermen for vessel and/or gear casualties and resulting economic loss caused by oil and gas activities on the Outer Continental Shelf.
Over the last few years, NOAA Fisheries has modernized the application process for providing financing through these programs to make the system more accessible. Current account holders and all interested stakeholders can preview the initial release of the updated financial services platform during this virtual session. During this meeting you will be provided a chance to give feedback. Additional system updates will be released in phases over the coming months.
Please note that this session will be recorded. We strongly encourage participants to keep their microphones and webcams off.
