Stori Oates

Communications and Education Coordinator, Contractor with IBSS

Stori is the Communications and Education Coordinator for Alaska Fisheries Science Center’s Auke Bay Laboratories. She collaborates with NOAA scientists, local school districts and educators, and non-profit organizations to co-develop culturally responsive and place-based education opportunities and curricula for students across Alaska.

Stori is an experienced field biologist and K-12 educator with a passion for sustainable resource management and a commitment to working collaboratively with team members and diverse constituencies to find stakeholder-driven and culturally-based solutions to multifaceted issues. She uses narratives and storytelling to explain complex scientific concepts with the goal of creating an equitable and successful learning environment for everyone.

Stori received a MSc in Marine Science from Moss Landing Marine Laboratories, and a BS in Biology from Santa Clara University. She loves spending time outdoors hiking, camping, kayaking, and paddle boarding with her husband and their pups.
