1990 Salmon Gillnet Fisheries Observer Programs in Prince William Sound and South Unimak Alaska

Final report of observer program methods and results in Alaska.

In 1990 the NOAA Fisheries sponsored observer programs nationwide to acquire knowledge about the incidental take of marine mammals in commercial fishing operations. In Alaska, NOAA Fisheries contracted Saltwater Inc. to design and implement observer programs in three salmon gillnet fisheries:

  1. the Prince William Sound driftnet fishery
  2. the Prince William Sound setnet fishery
  3. the South Unimak driftnet fishery.

This report describes the methods used and the results from those observer programs.
