Banggai Cardinalfish 5-Year Review
October 28, 2021
This document is the ESA 5-year review of the species based on the best available data.
Under section 4(c)(2) of the Endangered Species Act (ESA), we are required to conduct a review of all listed species at least once every 5 years to assess whether the current listing status remains accurate. In 2016, NOAA Fisheries listed the Banggai cardinalfish (Pterapogon kauderni) as threatened under the ESA. In 2021, we initiated the 5-year review, which was conducted by the NMFS Office of Protected Resources. The 5-year review is based on the best available data through May 2021. We concluded that no change to the listing status of the Banggai cardinalfish is warranted at this time.
