Steelhead (Lower Columbia River)
This multi-species HCP covers 144 acres of second-growth timber in southwest Washington State. Coho and steelhead inhabit a small stream and the shore of Mayfeld Lake. This HCP was NOAA Fisheries' first use of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) categorical exclusion to describe a low-effect HCP and non-ESA listed species agreement. The categorical exclusion was signed and the Incidental Take Permit issued in March 2004.
