Fishery-Independent Survey System
Fishery-Independent Surveys System (FINSS) is a web application designed to track and report the operational status of fishery-independent surveys conducted by NOAA Fisheries Science Centers.
FINSS data are primarily used for:
- Assist with across-Science Center survey planning and prioritization processes within NOAA
- Articulate NMFS survey capacities and status outside of the agency such as Congressional inquiries and Fishery Council presentations, etc.
- Identify and conduct analyses on survey efforts among different survey platforms, such as NOAA ships vs. charters including small boats and UNOLS, and aircrafts vs Uncrewed Aerial Systems for strategic planning purposes
