This Annual Report provides information, analysis, and recommendations based on the deployment of observers by the North Pacific Observer Program (Observer Program) during 2017.
The following species have not been confirmed in Alaskan waters or are rare enough to need further confirmation. For confirmation, you must return with a specimen or photographic documentation. Any species encountered out of range also requires confirmation, including all species not listed in the field guides.
This rockfish guide includes color images of 37 species (genera: Sebastes, Sebastolobus, and Adelosebastes) photographed under natural and electronic flash conditions in the field. Most specimens were photographed immediately after collection.
This short presentation is designed to assist groundfish observers in identifying corals to the order level in the field. It is essentially a more detailed version of the two-page coral guide provided as part of the observer identification manual. Representative specimens are on the display in the glass case near the observer training room in Seattle.
The 2018 Annual Deployment Plan documents how NOAA Fisheries intends to assign at-sea and shoreside observers and electronic monitoring to vessels and processing plants engaged in fishing operations in the North Pacific.
