Messages in a Bottle: Ocean Feature Mapping

In celebration of our 150th anniversary, we’ve taken a look at just how far ocean mapping technology has come—from drifting bottles and aerial observations to satellite imagery, GPS drifters, and computerized oceanographic models.

Nation’s Oldest Public Marine Aquarium Continues 150 Year Legacy

In celebration of our 150th anniversary, we are highlighting some of the things that make the Woods Hole fisheries lab and the village a special place. One of them is the Woods Hole Science Aquarium.

Linda Despres: Overcoming the Odds to Fulfill a Dream

Despite early hurdles facing women going to sea, Linda Despres fulfilled her dream of a marine science career. During her 40 years at the Northeast Fisheries Science Center she spent 1,560 days at sea, and even a few underwater.

In celebration of our 150th anniversary, we are highlighting people who helped build the foundation of fisheries and marine science. Meet Vinal Nye Edwards, a local Woods Hole naturalist, who was hired in 1871.
