2024–2026 Marine Conservation Plan for Guam; Western Pacific Sustainable Fisheries Fund
Summary
NOAA Fisheries announces the approval of a Marine Conservation Plan for Guam. This agency decision is effective March 27, 2024, through August 3, 2026.
This plan replaces the 2020–2023 plan, and includes the following conservation and management objectives:
- Fisheries resource assessment, research and monitoring
- Effective surveillance and enforcement mechanisms
- Promotion of ecosystems approach to fisheries management, climate change adaptation and mitigation, and regional cooperation
- Public participation, research, education and outreach, and local capacity building
- Domestic fisheries development
- Recognizing the importance of island cultures and traditional fishing practices and community based management
