2024 Atlantic Spiny Dogfish Specifications
Summary
NOAA Fisheries is issuing a temporary rule to extend the 2024 spiny dogfish specifications with an adjustment to account for an annual catch limit (ACL) overage in fishing year 2023. The initial emergency specifications decreased the coastwide commercial quota by about 6 percent from fishing year 2023 and balanced the need to prevent overfishing while allowing for a commercial quota that is high enough to sustain the commercial fishery. This action extends the 2024 specifications through the end of fishing year 2024 on April 30, 2025, and reduces the 2024 ACL and commercial quota by 491 mt.
