IB 00-103: NMFS Announces the Implementation of the Scallop License Limitation Program

December 19, 2000 - 10:00 a.m.

Notice of a fishery management action.

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) will implement the scallop License Limitation Program (scallop LLP) for the scallop fishery off Alaska, effective January 16, 2001, according to James W. Balsiger, Administrator, Alaska Region, NMFS.

The scallop LLP limits access to the commercial scallop fisheries in Alaska. A qualified person who applies as prescribed will receive a license(s) that authorizes that person to catch and retain scallops. Initial allocation of licenses will be based on the eligibility qualifications outlined in Federal regulations at 50 CFR part 679.4(g).

The application period for a scallop license is from January 16, 2001 to February 12, 2001. Applications are available on the NMFS web page at http://www.fakr.noaa.gov/ram/ (broken link) or from the Program Administrator, Restricted Access Management, NMFS Alaska Region, P.O. Box 21668, Juneau, AK 99802-1668, Attn: Philip Smith. Applications may be picked up in person from NMFS in the Federal Building, Room 713, Juneau, AK. Requests for applications may also be sent by facsimile to (907) 586-7354.
