IB 03-34: NMFS Prohibits Directed Fishing For Pacific Cod By Vessels Using Trawl Gear In The Harvest Limit Areas In The Central And Western Aleutian Districts

Notice of a fishery management action.

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is prohibiting directed fishing for Pacific cod by vessels using trawl gear in the Harvest Limitation Areas in the Central (area 542) and Western (area 543) Aleutian Districts of the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands management area, effective 12 noon, Alaska local time (A.l.t.), April 8, 2003, until 12 noon, A.l.t., April 11, 2003, according to James W. Balsiger, Administrator, Alaska Region, NMFS.

This action is issued pursuant to 50 CFR 679.22(a)(8)(iv)(A) which requires prohibition of directed fishing for Pacific cod by vessels using trawl gear when the directed fishery for Atka mackerel in the Harvest Limitation Area in area 542 or 543 is open.

After the effective date of this closure, the maximum retainable amounts at 50 CFR 679.20(e) and (f) apply at any time during a trip.
