The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is opening the directed Pacific ocean perch fishery in the West Yakutat District (Statistical Area 640, between 140 degrees and 147 degrees W. longitudes) of the Gulf of Alaska management area. This opening is effective at 12 noon, Alaska local time, August 15, 1999, according to Steven Pennoyer, Administrator, Alaska Region, NMFS.
This action is necessary to fully utilize the total allowable catch of Pacific ocean perch in this area. Other closures remain in full force and effect.
