Alexander R. Gaos, PhD
Dr. Alexander R. Gaos is a research marine biologist with the Marine Turtle Biology and Assessment Program at the NOAA Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center, where he uses his extensive experience deploying satellite telemetry technologies, implementing molecular genetic tools and developing field programs to help lead research programs throughout the region. Alexander is the Vice-Chair of the Eastern Pacific Region for the IUCN Marine Turtle Specialist Group, Travel Grant Chair for the International Sea Turtle Society and Co-Founder of the Eastern Pacific Hawksbill Initiative (ICAPO). He has managed marine turtle nesting beach surveys, in-water monitoring and fisheries bycatch reduction programs in countries throughout the Pacific Ocean for more than a decade. During previous collaborations with the NOAA Southwest Fisheries Science Center, Alexander attained a Master’s degree in Biology from San Diego State University (SDSU) and a PhD in Ecology as part of the Joint Doctoral Program in Ecology with the University of California Davis and SDSU.
