Climate and Communities Social Scientist

Andrew Steinkruger, a Climate and Communities Social Scientist with the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission in Juneau, is working with Dr. Marysia Szymkowiak on the adaptation component of the Gulf of Alaska Climate Integrated Modeling Project

For this project Andrew is leveraging harvest data to analyze historic fishery portfolios and the effects of shocks and adaptation strategies in social networks of fishery participants. He is also examining adaptation strategies in near- to mid-term planning documents by stakeholder organizations, including fisheries participants, seafood processors, tribal organizations, and local governments. Andrew will be working with Dr. Szymkowiak to engage with stakeholders on adaptation and strengthening adaptive capacity in Gulf of Alaska communities.

Andrew received a MA in Environmental Science and Management from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a BA in Economics and Spanish from the University of Alaska, Anchorage, his hometown university.
