David H. Baldwin, Ph.D.

Background

David is currently a Research Zoologist in the Ecotoxicology Program. Before joining the Center in 2000 as a NRC postdoctoral fellow, David received a B.A. in Biology from Reed College and a Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of Washington. In between degrees, he worked as a research technician and computer programmer. David has experience in data acquisition and analysis, electrophysiology, image processing, sensory physiology and behavior, immunocytochemistry, confocal and fluorescence imaging, and computer programming.

Current Research

David's research focuses on the sublethal impacts of contaminants on the neurophysiology and behavior of juvenile salmon. The experiments being performed are designed to link the physiological impacts of contaminant exposure to behavioral impacts of the exposure. Areas of research have included the effect of copper on salmon olfactory neurophysiology and olfactory-mediated behaviors and the effect pesticides on fish neurophysiology and feeding behavior. David also provides scientific support on contaminant-related Endangered Species Act consultations.
