Jim Berkson, Ph.D.
Jim has been with NOAA Fisheries since 2003, and has been in the field of fisheries and protected species assessments for over 35 years. Prior to coming to NOAA, I was an Assistant and Associate Professor at Virginia Tech.
I was one of 31 NOAA employees selected to be in NOAA's Leadership Competencies Development Program (LCDP) Class XI in 2019. As part of this program I participated in five weeks of training at the Federal Executive Institute in Charlottesville, Virginia and covered four developmental assignments for 18 months as the Fishery Science Branch Chief in the NOAA Fisheries Office of Science and Technology, the Management Plan Developer at the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary, as the Enterprise Risk Manager in NOAA's Office of the Chief Financial Officer, and as the Chief of Staff at the NOAA Fisheries Northeast Fisheries Science Center. The LCDP is NOAA's premiere succession development program.
