Kyra Lenderman

Shellfish Health and Disease Technician (Affiliate)

Kyra joined the Milford Lab in 2023 as a field and laboratory technician on a research study that is monitoring the presence of disease within natural oyster populations throughout the Long Island Sound. This research will ensure a more sustainable future for this vital marine resource, through restoration and aquaculture management.

Kyra is a graduate of Oregon State University, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, with a focus in Marine Biology. She found a passion for research projects that emphasize marine resource management and sustainability.

Kyra has worked in laboratory technician and animal husbandry roles managing coral and sea anemones at research institutions, as well as analyzed oyster and macroalgae growth rates at aquaculture experimental labs. Through her work, she developed a deeper understanding of the important environmental benefits aquaculture can provide within ecosystems and communities.
