Lesette has a BSc in Statistics, a BA in Mathematics from the University of North Carolina Wilmington, and an MSc in Statistical Ecology from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. For her master’s thesis, Lesette used passive acoustic monitoring data and a 3D localization method to initially extend the conventional line transect likelihood to accommodate uncertain perpendicular distance of detected sperm whales in the Hawaiian EZZ.
