Mitchell Rider, Ph.D.
Mitchell received his B.S. in Biology at Bates College. He then attended the University of Miami's Rosenstiel School for Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science where he received both his M.S. and Ph.D. His M.S. research focused on analyzing the relationship between boat traffic and shark movement patterns in Biscayne Bay, Florida. During his Ph.D., he studied the movement ecology of leatherback sea turtles in the Gulf of Mexico and along the Atlantic Coast of the United States. He is continuing his work with turtles as a Postdoctoral Research Associate NOAA Affiliate of SEFSC through the Cooperative Institute of Marine and Atmospheric Studies. More specifically, he is creating species distribution models of several sea turtle species in the Gulf of Mexico and along the Atlantic Coast as part of NOAA's Toolbox Initiative.
