Neal McIntosh
Neal McIntosh’s connection to the ocean began on the shores of coastal Georgia, sparking a lifelong interest in marine ecosystems. Armed with bachelors degrees in biology and ecology and a childhood spent on boats, Neal started her marine biologist career as a fisheries observer in New England in 2004. After four years observing, Neal pursued a masters degree in biological oceanography at Oregon State University studying juvenile walleye pollock in the Bering Sea. After graduate school, Neal spent some time working for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife on their marine reserves program. She then came back to NOAA as a contractor with the Alaska Fisheries Science Center. In 2016, she became an FTE with the West Coast Region in Sacramento primarily working on Endangered Species Act consultations. Other than a year hiatus with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, she was with the West Coast Region until she joined the RAMB Gear Team in July of 2024. Neal works with the Gear Research Team on data analysis and coordination with West Coast and other collaborators.
