Russel (Rusty) A. Dame

Industry Economist

Rusty is an applied economist specializing in marine resource economics and aquaculture economics.  He joined the Alaska Fisheries Science Center in July 2023 as an industry economist.  His primary research activities involve applying non-market valuation methods to the value of recreational fishing opportunities and analyzing the environmental and financial risk of aquaculture operations. His current research analyzes methodological issues when considering on-site and travel time using revealed preference data. He recently joined the aquaculture working group to contribute to the economic analysis of mariculture operations in Alaska by investigating the feasibility and financial risk of oyster and kelp mariculture operations.
Rusty graduated from the University of Florida with a B.S. and M.S. in Food and Resource Economics and recently completed his Ph.D. in Applied Economics from Oregon State University.
