Research Fisheries Biologist

Shannon is a research fisheries biologist with the Alaska Fisheries Science Center’s Shellfish Assessment Program in Kodiak, Alaska. She joined NOAA Fisheries in 2023 after working as a postdoctoral researcher in Hawai'i studying the impacts of strong environmental gradients on fisheries-important reef fish populations. Shannon's current work includes conducting fisheries and ecosystem research on commercial crab species, redesigning the Shellfish Assessment Program's survey data workflow and products that support crab fishery management, and participating in the annual eastern Bering Sea bottom trawl survey. Shannon is a marine ecologist who received a B.S. from the University of Washington and a Ph.D. from Oregon State University. She is a nature enthusiast and scientific illustrator, and enjoys gardening, tidepooling, and foraging.
