About
On Wednesday, November 17, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. EST, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will lead a virtual briefing and Q&A on its new report, "Data and Management Strategies for Recreational Fisheries with Annual Catch Limits."
The report affirms NOAA Fisheries’ recreational fishing data "are critically important for fisheries management." It also provides 34 conclusions regarding the utility and potential improvements for current data and management tools for recreational fisheries with annual catch limits. Based on these conclusions, the report provides 10 recommendations for better meeting in-season management needs.
The report was called for by the Modernizing Recreational Fisheries Management Act, or Modern Fish Act, of 2018. It is a follow-up to the National Academies' "Review of the Marine Recreational Information Program," which in 2017 recognized NOAA Fisheries for making "impressive progress" and "major improvements" to its recreational fishing survey designs.
