November 2017 Marine Fisheries Advisory Committee Meeting
This is a meeting of the Marine Fisheries Advisory Committee, which advises NOAA and the Department of Commerce on living marine resource issues.
About
Primary goals of this meeting include (1) finalizing the last Resiliency report, focused on tools, mechanisms, and the data necessary to support dynamic adaptive fishery management actions, an executive summary to complete the Resiliency work MAFAC has engaged in the past two years; and (2) discussing the activities and progress of the Columbia Basin Partnership Task Force to date. MAFAC will hear directly from two Task Force members and staff. Updates will be presented on other topics noted below.

MEETING ACTIONS AND OUTCOMES
Decisions will be made on the following:
- Resilience Task 6 white paper on improving the data needed to support sound decision-making for adaptive fishery management actions
- A written Executive Summary that ties together each of the Resiliency task products
Potential new topics:
- Aquaculture activities and potential opportunities for engagement
- Review and comment on Draft 4th National Climate Assessment (e.g., Oceans and Marine Resources Chapter)
Informational Briefings and Updates:
- Legislative, administrative, budget and transition outlook
- Columbia Basin Partnership Task Force
- Update on science activities: resilience, electronic technologies and monitoring, citizen science, and deployment of new buoys
- Communications and outreach through FishWatch and new NOAA Fisheries website
- Update on aquaculture efforts
- NOAA Fisheries grant-making processes
