Curious Kids Head to NOAA Science Camp

August 15, 2017

It’s that time again: time for camp! In fact, this is the 15th year of NOAA Science Camp.

Each July, campers head to NOAA Science Camp for a few weeks of fun and hands-on learning at our waterfront campus in Sand Point, Seattle, Washington. Middle and high school students get hands-on experience working with NOAA scientists.

The NOAA Restoration Center leads a camp session focused on healthy habitat for salmon. The campers engage with staff while designing their own habitat restoration project and present it to the group. It’s a fun way to learn about real-life successes and challenges of working together in a complex environment.

This year there’s also a special robotics workshop where middle school students are designing and testing their own ROV (remotely operated vehicle). These technologies play a major role in studying and understanding our ocean planet.

It’s good to know that the next generation’s scientists are busy this July, exploring marine science, making friends and having a great time.
