NOAA announced the appointment of Farron Wallace as the new Galveston Laboratory Director for NOAA’s Southeast Fisheries Science Center.
Mr. Wallace takes over the reigns in Galveston on June 10, 2019. Prior to his appointment, he was a senior fisheries research scientist at the Alaska Fisheries Science Center in Seattle, Washington. While there he formed and led the Electronic Monitoring Innovation project that employs artificial intelligence to automated image analysis to determine catch size and species identification. He served on the North Pacific Fisheries Management Council's Science and Statistical Committee as Chair, Vice-chair and member. He has served as a senior stock assessment scientist for over 20 years, conducting assessments for Pacific coastal species, overseeing port sampling efforts, leading tag studies, designing ROV and creel surveys.
