Passive Acoustic Monitoring Regional Maps and GIS Layers
Explore our Passive Acoustic Cetacean Detections Map for the Northwest Atlantic Ocean and our Proposed Framework for Regional Monitoring
Together, NOAA and the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management have created a regional monitoring network. It promotes passive acoustic monitoring for baseline data collection prior to and during wind turbine construction and operation (see Current Wind Farm Energy Areas). The PAM regional maps below have numbered grid cells containing proposed monitoring locations to facilitate cross-state planning. Users can also access these maps through:
On both portals, users can overlay many other datasets (vessel traffic, fishing activity, predicted whale abundance, etc.) with these proposed grids, including grid cells with (A) current PAM effort or (B) historical detections of North Atlantic right whale acoustic activity.
For detailed information on NARW and other marine mammal species detections, visit the Passive Acoustic Cetacean Map.
