
How to Complete a For-Hire eVTR Using Fish Online eVTR App for iOS
Operators of federally permitted vessels must submit a vessel trip report (VTR) for each fishing trip. VTRs are important because they provide data that informs fishery science and management decisions. These are tips to complete VTRs electronically.
Use this page for guidance on filling in eVTR fields to complete your report.

Report a Trip with Catch
Vessel Information
- Begin a trip by tapping the + sign.
- Tap eVTR Trip Report in the Create New Report pop up.
- Enter your vessel and trip information, and then tap NEXT.
Trip Type
- Select TRIP TYPE, NO. OF CREW or NO. OF ANGLERS, then tap NEXT.
- Review, tap SAVE.
Effort
- Tap + , tap ADD EFFORT.
- Enter your GEAR, GEAR QTY, tap NEXT.
- Enter CHART AREA, TOW/SOAK TIME and FISHING DEPTH. Tap NEXT.
- Select LAT/LON FORMAT, then enter LAT and LON (if on fishing location tap Use GPS), then tap SAVE.
Catch
- Tap ADD CATCH then tap ADD CATCH ITEM.
- Enter and select species from the search field.
- Enter the number of fish in the KEPT and DISCARD fields. (If you discarded no fish, you must enter 0 into the Discard field.) Tap SAVE, then tap DONE. Continue to add your catch until you have reported all of it, then tap DONE in the upper part of the screen.
- Tap VTR TRIP REPORT in the upper left corner of the screen.
- Tap SET DATE and TIME LANDED.
- Enter Date and Time Landed, tap SAVE.
Offload Items
- Tap + , tap ADD OFFLOAD ITEMS.
- Tap ADD OFFLOAD ITEM. Select a species to offload, Tap NEXT.
- Enter QTY OFFLOADED, Tap DONE.
- Select OFFLOAD PORT.
- Select DATE OFFLOADED. Tap DONE, Tap SAVE.
- Tap DONE.
Sign
- Tap Sign Icon.
- Review trip (use the next button to scroll through information), Check the I certify box.
- Tap SUBMIT.
Sales
The sale of fish on For-Hire trips is generally not allowed; however, under certain circumstances, the sale of Atlantic tunas is permissible. Please check current regulations for Atlantic tunas.
If you are selling fish to a dealer on a for-hire trip:
- Follow the steps from the beginning until you get to the QTY OFFLOADED step.
- Enter QTY OFFLOADED.
- If and only if you are selling to a dealer, change the value Home Consumption to the dealer’s name by searching for dealer (dealer name or dealer number) and selecting from list.
- Continue from the “Select OFFLOAD PORT” step, above.
Did Not Catch
You must report your trip even if you didn't catch any fish:
- Begin a trip by tapping the + sign.
- Enter your vessel and trip information, and then tap SAVE.
- Tap +, tap ADD EFFORT, then enter Gear Code, Gear QTY, Area, Tow/Soak time and depth. Tap NEXT.
- Select LAT/LON FORMAT, then enter LAT and LON or use GPS function if on location. Tap SAVE.
- When prompted to Add Catch, type/search for No Catch in the species search box, then tap SAVE, then DONE.
- Tap VTR TRIP REPORT in the upper left corner.
- Tap + , Tap SET DATE TIME LANDED. Enter date/time then tap SAVE.
- Tap the Sign icon, review by tapping NEXT, check off certification box, tap SUBMIT to sign and submit your report.
You must report your trip if you began a fishing trip, but returned to port before fishing occurs because of issues like bad weather, mechanical problems or illness:
- Begin a trip by tapping the + sign.
- Enter your vessel and trip information, then tap SAVE.
- Tap the + sign, tap SET DATE TIME LANDED, enter date and time, then tap SAVE.
- Tap the Sign icon to review your sail and land information, then tap NEXT.
- Select the proper trip activity, then tap NEXT.
- Submit your report.
