Summer Flounder: QA/QC Exercise Results

Results of the QA/QC exercises for ageing summer flounder.

Katie Rogers (KR) has been working with Summer Flounder since 2018; before that, the age reader was Blanche Jackson (BJ, retired). Sectioned and whole otoliths are viewed with transmitted light. A special project used samples collected by the Partnership for Mid-Atlantic Fisheries Science (PMAFS); Nicole Calabrese (NC) aged these samples.

In tests where agreement is below 90%, bias indicates either the P-value of a symmetry test or ‘n/s’ (test not significant at the α = 0.05 level). The Evans & Hoenig test was used to test bias starting 1/2022; prior to that, a Bowker's test was used. All samples were collected by the Northeast Fisheries Science Center except where indicated otherwise. Structure indicates which part of the fish was used: Scales, Otoliths, or a combination of both (S+O).
