Removal of the dam improved passage for the endangered steelhead native to the river and restored the physical and ecological processes that help create and maintain habitat for the fish in the long term.
Biologists are capitalizing on a unique opportunity this year to “jump start” the recovery of Sacramento winter-run Chinook salmon, one of the nation’s most critically endangered species.
Multiple partner agencies provided assistance to salmon & steelhead stranded as a result of the deteriorating Oroville Dam spillway, as well as to fish in the Feather River hatchery downstream.
