North Atlantic right whales get a lot of attention. In this episode, we learn a little about their lesser known West Coast cousins: North Pacific right whales, whose numbers are dramatically low.
For the fiscal year 2024, 66 proposals were received from 21 states and 1 Tribe. The total amount of federal funding requested was $8,262,854. These proposals met the minimum requirements and will be considered for funding.
NOAA Fisheries is analyzing data collected from killer whale incidental catches in Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands groundfish trawl fisheries and in its annual longline survey for sablefish and groundfish this year.
