The annual Fisheries of the United States report is a yearbook of fisheries statistics for the nation. It provides data on commercial landings and value and recreational catch.

Each year NOAA Fisheries compiles key fisheries statistics from the previous year into an annual snapshot documenting fishing’s importance to the nation. According to the Fisheries of the United States, 2019 report, U.S. commercial fishermen landed 9.3 billion pounds valued at $5.5 billion in 2019.

In our recreational fisheries, U.S. anglers took more than 187 million trips in 2019. These recreational anglers caught more than 950 million fish and released 64 percent of those caught. The total recreational harvest was estimated at 341 million fish weighing 350 million pounds.
