Status Review of the Largetooth Sawfish (Pristis perotteti)

March 01, 2010

This status review summarizes the biological information gathered for an Endangered Species Act (ESA) assessment of the status of the largetooth sawfish (Pristis perotteti).

This report was produced in response to a petition received from WildEarth Guardians on April 21, 2009, to list largetooth sawfish (Pristis perotteti) as endangered or threatened under the Endangered Species Act throughout its range and to designate critical habitat for this species. On July 29, 2009, NMFS published a positive 90- day finding (74 FR 37671) in the Federal Register announcing the petition presented substantial scientific or commercial information indicating the petitioned action may be warranted for listing the species. NMFS announced the initiation of a status review of the species and requested information to inform its decision on whether to propose the species for ESA listing. This report is the status review and summarizes the biological information gathered for an ESA assessment of the status of the largetooth sawfish.
