Salmon Survival Game

September 30, 2019

The Salmon Survival board game walks participants through the salmon life cycle. During each life stage, participants attempt to survive the natural and human-made challenges salmon face, such as drought, passage barriers, and predators. But don’t despair, the game also features ways that people are helping salmon, such as building rain gardens, conserving water, and constructing fish ladders.

Participants roll dice to move through the different salmon life cycle stages. The salmon encounter human-made (e.g., passage barriers, urban runoff, warming waters, etc.) and natural challenges (e.g., predators, drought, disease) as well as ways that people are working to save salmon (e.g., rain gardens, water conservation, salmon ladders, etc.). The salmon begin as eggs and try to make their way around the board to spawn the next generation of salmon.
