Through 2010, octopuses were managed as part of the BSAI “other species” complex, along with sharks, skates, and sculpins. Historically, catches of the other species complex were well below TAC and retention of other species was small.

An arrow pointing from X to Y indicates that a change in X is estimated to cause a change in Y. The number next to each arrow shows the estimated magnitude of the change (red arrows indicate a negative change and blue arrows indicate a positive change).

Federal Lobster Permit Holders: Lobster Trap Tag Ordering Instructions

If you intend to fish for lobsters in federal waters with trap gear during the 2024 fishing year, you must renew your federal lobster permit and order lobster trap tags. You are encouraged to renew your Federal permit and apply for trap tags as soon as possible so that your tags can be authorized, manufactured, and mailed ahead of planned fishing activity.
