EASTROPAC was an international cooperative investigation of the eastern tropical Pacific Ocean providing data necessary for a more effective use of marine resources, and to increase knowledge of ocean circulation, air-sea interaction, and ecology. The project was coordinated by the U.S. Bureau of Commercial Fisheries (now NOAA Fisheries) and included numerous research cruises from February 1967 to March 1968.
The product of this research was an 11-volume data atlas published from 1970 to 1977. Five volumes contain physical oceanographic and meteorological data from the principal participating ships, five volumes contain biological and nutrient chemistry data from the same ships, and the final volume contains all data from Latin American cooperating ships and ships of opportunity.
