Summary

We, NOAA Fisheries, announce a 90-day finding on a petition to list Olympic Peninsula (OP) steelhead (Oncorhynchus mykiss) as a threatened or endangered Distinct Population Segment (DPS) under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). The petitioners also request that we designate critical habitat concurrently with the listing. We find that the petition presents substantial scientific information indicating the petitioned action to list OP steelhead as a DPS may be warranted. We will conduct a status review to determine if the petitioned action to list OP steelhead as a DPS is warranted. To ensure that the status review is comprehensive, we are soliciting scientific and commercial information and Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) pertaining to these species from any interested party.
