Summary

We, NOAA Fisheries, announce a 90-day finding on a petition to list the Oregon Coast (OC) and Southern Oregon and Northern California Coastal Chinook (SONCC) salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) Evolutionarily Significant Units (ESUs) as threatened or endangered under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) or, alternatively, list only spring-run Chinook salmon in Oregon Coast and Southern Oregon and Northern California Coastal Chinook salmon ESUs as threatened or endangered under the ESA. The petitioners also request that we designate critical habitat concurrently with the listing. We find that the petition presents substantial scientific information indicating the petitioned action to list the OC and SONCC Chinook salmon ESUs may be warranted, and that the petitioned action to list only the spring-run components of the OC and SONCC Chinook salmon ESUs is not warranted. We will conduct a status review to determine whether the petitioned action to list the OC and SONCC ESUs is warranted. To ensure that the status review is comprehensive, we are soliciting scientific and commercial information and Traditional Ecological Knowledge pertaining to these species from any interested party.
