Summary

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) announces that the Pacific Fishery Management Council has submitted Amendment 18 to the Coastal Pelagic Species Fishery Management Plan for review by the Secretary of Commerce.  Amendment 18 would implement a rebuilding plan for the northern subpopulation of Pacific sardine, which NMFS declared overfished in June 2019.  NMFS will consider public comments in deciding whether to approve, disapprove, or partially approve Amendment 18.

The purpose of this Notice is to solicit public comment on the draft Amendment 18 language for 60 days. Comments on Amendment 18 must be received by May 17, 2021.  The associated Environmental Assessment can be viewed on the West Coast Region's National Environmental Policy Act page. To submit public comments on the Environmental Assessment, email Lynn Massey (NMFS) or Kerry Griffin (PFMC) by April 15, 2021.
