Summary

NOAA Fisheries announces the Final Calaveras River Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP) and Environmental Assessment (EA) availability and subsequent issuance of the Incidental Take Permit under Section 10(a)(1)(B) of the Endangered Species Act (ESA). Stockton East Water District (District) applied for ESA coverage for their ongoing operations and monitoring program in the lower Calaveras River in California’s Central Valley. The incidental take permit provides ESA coverage for District’s activities in the Calaveras River as described in the HCP and evaluated in the EA for the following federally protected species: threatened California Central Valley steelhead (Oncorhynchus mykiss) Distinct Population Segment, threatened Central Valley spring-­run Chinook salmon (0. tshawytscha) Evolutionarily Significant Unit (ESU), endangered Sacramento River winter-run Chinook salmon (0. tshawytscha) ESU, and species of special concern CV fall/late fall-run Chinook salmon (0. tshawytscha) ESU.
