Summary

We, NOAA Fisheries, issue a final rule to list the Tanzanian Distinct Population Segment (DPS) of African coelacanth (Latimeria chalumnae) as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). We will not designate critical habitat for this species because the geographical areas occupied by the species are entirely outside U.S. jurisdiction, and we have not identified any unoccupied areas within U.S. jurisdiction that are essential to the conservation of the species.
