Education and Outreach in Alaska

NOAA Fisheries works with communities and schools in Alaska to co-develop place-based, hands-on educational materials.

NOAA Fisheries envisions healthy ecosystems, communities, and economies in Alaska that are resilient in the face of change. To support this vision, the Alaska Fisheries Science Center’s education and outreach team develops hands-on lesson plans, educational webinars, community science programs, and outreach events. They are all based on NOAA Fisheries’ cutting-edge research that are designed to bolster literacy in ocean, coastal, and climate sciences. We strive to create place-based, hands-on educational materials for students and educators across Alaska.

We also aim to provide timely, science-based content to educators and communities that inspires students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and other disciplines critical to stewardship. We are committed to supporting Alaska students to become knowledgeable and engaged members of their communities.
