Background

Doug Dey's background includes meeting Elvis and research in biological oceanography, environmental effects (pollutants and UV radiation), fish passage and survival, gas bubble disease, PIT-tag and radiotelemetry technology, and the migrational behavior of anadromous fish.

Current Research

Research conducted by Migrational Behavior Program scientists and technicians covers a broad suite of studies. We design studies to document the migratory movements of anadromous fish and to evaluate the impacts of the diverse environmental conditions and habitats experienced by these fish throughout their life cycles. Our work focuses primarily on salmon and steelhead listed under the U.S. Endangered Species Act, but also includes lamprey, sturgeon, and other species of concern.

In addition to our science staff, our administrative personnel and skilled shop mechanics and technicians provide invaluable support for a number of Fish Ecology Division research projects. Program staff are stationed at the NWFSC in Seattle, the Pasco Research Station, at Lower Granite Dam on the Snake River, and in North Bonneville on the lower Columbia River.
